The Not So Barn Find

We love sailing. We currently enthusiastically sail a Wayfarer Mark IV. We love sailing the Wayfarer so much that we thought about getting another boat down into the area for other people to sail. I found a wonderful (looking) boat on Craigslist. It was only a little way from my brother’s house. From the pictures it looked pretty sturdy.

My brother went and looked at the boat, he was incredibly enthusiastic. So I agreed to buy it. Then they sent me the pictures of the crack in the back of the seating compartment.

A partial list – that I can remember – of what needed to be done:

The rudder cheeks had become delaminated. The back hatch cover was missing. One of the seats was missing, but the jib tracks were there. The shrouds and the main stay all had turnbuckles and were missing parts. No, the main stay was an “L” bracket. ??? The spreaders were little tubes. There was no hiking stick, vang, mainsheet. The sails were a dyed mess. The boat was badly oxidized. And while the trailer was pretty sturdy it had been spray painted so none of the bolts could be removed easily.

Oh and that crack along the storage compartment and the center cockpit.
